Viaplay Selects thePlatform

thePlatform, the leading white-label video publishing company and independent subsidiary of Comcast, have announced that it has been selected to provide the back-end video management for Viaplay, the Nordics’ leading online service for TV shows, movies and sporting events.

Viaplay provides both online and set-top box-based TV services, and is part of Modern Times Group (MTG), an international entertainment broadcasting group with operations that span four continents and include free-TV, pay-TV, radio and content production businesses. Under today’s agreement, thePlatform’s cloud-based, mpx video publishing system will manage Viaplay’s TV services to support viewers on PCs, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, Xbox, PlayStation 3, as well as Viaplay’s OTT set-top box.

“thePlatform has an exceptional track record of managing large-scale online TV services around the globe,” says Niclas Ekdahl, CEO of Viaplay. “mpx enables us to centralize our video publishing efforts across all our territories and let our subscribers watch their favorite movies, sports and TV shows on their device of choice when convenient to them.”

In other news, thePlatform has just confirmed that it will be exhibiting at next year’s TV Connect in London.
