Freesat launches new Children’s Christmas Showcase

Freesat, the subscription free satellite TV service, has today announced the launch of its new seasonal Children’s TV Guide, the ‘Christmas Showcase’, live on www.freesat.co.uk/hohoho today.

Designed to package the very best of free TV everyday of the Christmas holidays, the Freesat Children’s Christmas Showcase is for both parents and children who want to find programmes to watch over the holidays.

Uniquely, the  web-based TV Guide will focus both on programmes that are specifically designed for children like Peppa Pig, but also popular films like The Gruffalo and family viewing favourites like Dr Who, Strictly or Operation Snow Tiger. Whether it be unearthing hidden gems or reminding everyone about their favourite shows and films, the guide promises to make the most of family time around the telly this Christmas.

With four genres including Little Ones (age 3-6) and Juniors (age 7-11), the Christmas Showcase makes recommendations on what to watch, from movies to favourite series whether they’re on live TV or on Freesat’s On Demand services from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5. There’s also a downloadable guide that parents can print and use in front of the TV.

Commenting on the launch, Emma Scott, Managing Director of Freesat, said: “The family audience is so important to us and this is a long-held ambition to bring family focused recommendations to Freesat homes, especially following the popularity of Showcase in Freesat’s Freetime service. With such brilliant free programming for all ages this Christmas, the web guide promises to hit all the right notes – whether you’ll be gathering around Gangsta Granny or settling down for The Snowman and The Snow Dog.”

“We know that watching the TV brings families together, as recent research* confirmed that families in the UK are now more likely to watch TV together than they have been in more than a decade. Dancing together to Strictly or cheering on contestants in The X Factor is a typical Saturday night for so many families now, as watching free TV remains a mainstay of family entertainment. We’re really excited about Freesat’s role in family TV and the future possibilities of Children’s TV viewing guides.”

The Freesat Children’s Christmas Showcase is live from today at www.freesat.co.uk/hohoho and will be a daily guide and recommendations service until the 2nd of January 2014.
