Sony & HBO extend LATAM/Caribbean alliance

HBO and Sony Pictures Television have agreed to a contract extension to distribute newly released content in 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The agreement gives HBO Latin America exclusive pay-TV rights for a number of Sony animated and action films. Among the titles are Django Unchained and After Earth, as well as franchises Spiderman and Men in Black, while in animation are Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The Smurfs.

“Movies are an important form of entertainment in Latin America, the Caribbean and Brazil, and the extension of this agreement reaffirms the significant role they continue to play in the pay TV market,” says Senior VP of Distribution for Latin America at Sony Alexander Marin.
