Time Warner Cable CEO diagnosed with cancer

Time Warner Cable have said that chairman and CEO Glenn Britt has been diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

Today, in a memo to employees, Britt said that he was told by doctors about two weeks ago of the diagnosis:

“As many of you know, I have had an ongoing issue with my voice since mid-summer and have been undergoing tests to determine the cause. A few weeks ago, the doctors determined that I have cancer. Some of you may not know that I am a cancer survivor; I had a bout with melanoma five years ago and at that time, received a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, as is the case with many cancer patients, the cancer has recurred.”

Britt went on to commend the “terrific care” he was receiving. “I feel good and am optimistic about my prognosis. I have no intention of letting this cancer slow me down, and will continue to work until my retirement at the end of the year.Your well wishes mean the world to me, so thank you for all you have done and will continue to do to support me as I fight this illness.”

Britt announced earlier this year that he was to retire at the end of 2013.
