Rostelecom in IPTV shift

State-controlled Russian telecoms operator Rostelecom aims to cut capital expenditure in the next four years and focus on internet services such as digital TV, according to sources cited in business daily Vedomosti on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, Rostelecom is planning to cut investments to 20 percent of its revenue in 2014, and 10% by 2018.

Rostelecom’s plans emphasise the development of its fixed broadband, IPTV (in which revenues have grown by 25%) and media business, though they are reportedly still to be discussed by Rostelecom’s strategy committee and board of directors. They will have to be submitted to the government by December 4.
