Hulu Plus for Chromecast

It’s a little ironic that, when Chromecast was first launched, Netflix was the sole non-Google content source from Andriod devices, considering that now Netflix’ number one competitor Hulu has been made available to users of that stealthy, fascinating $35 dongle. Hulu Plus is a custom remote control that has all the basic functionality of play/pause, as well as a 0.10 second rewind.

Of course it isn’t quite as straightforward as all this, yet, since viewers who want to cast Hulu Plus must download the latest Android or iOS app for the service. At first Android tablets and smartphones will work, as will Apple’s iPad, but Hulu Plus support for the iPhone will have to wait a little bit longer. And, of course, there’s also the question of cost, with customers still expected to pay the standard Hulu Plus $7.99 a month.

“Our teams in Santa Monica and Beijing, working closely with Google, have developed the Hulu Plus app for Chromecast to be a seamless experience that offers a new and exciting way to engage with the shows you love most,” says Karan Nischol, senior product manager at Hulu.
