FOX in large LATAM takeover

In yet more interesting new from the region, the leading operator of premium film channels in Latin America, LAPTV, has been taken devoured completely by FOX International Channels, a takeover achieved with the purchase of the share of LAPTV belonging to Paramount Pictures – which has also extended its long-term content output agreement with the subsidiary of 21st Centry Fox. Under the terms of this deal FIC will have access to new Paramount feature films in Latin America (not including Brazil).

“I’m very excited to announce that FOX International Channels will now own 100% of LAPTV. I am sure that we will leverage and increase the value of our product proposition to our affiliates, distributors and advertisers,” says Carlos Martinez, president of FIC Latin America, regarding the takeover.

Crucially for TV development options now open to FIC, LAPTV also operates Moviecity and other leading premium channel brands, and has a long-term content output agreement with MGM, Universal Studio and Twentieth Century FOX.  Moviecity claims to offer the best premium video entertainment experience in Latin America, pioneering TV everywhere services by being first to launch Moviecity Play, its authenticated video-on-demand (VOD) platform, in 2011.
