Comedy Central in sub-Saharan Africa

Viacom International Media Networks Africa’s Comedy Central is the only 24 hour comedy channel in sub-Saharan Africa.

Launched less than two years ago via the DStv platform (Channel 122), Comedy Central has quickly made a name for itself on the South African comedy and entertainment scene, capturing audiences and achieving all of its reach, ratings and revenue targets.  The channel regularly features in the Top 10 entertainment channels on the DStv Premium tier, out of hundreds of different channels.

Off-air, the Comedy Channel has also made waves, supporting the local comedy scene with a host of local comedy events including an amateur comedy contest and a high profile fundraiser.  A regular comedy night at Parker’s Comedy & Jive saw Comedy Central give a high quality platform to more than sixty South African stand-up comics.

“The principle works all over the world,” says Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central Africa, ”we are the only channel in Africa who delivers comedy 24 hours a day, across all genres, for everyone.”

The channel’s appeal is to be highlighted at next month’s AfricaCast (Cape Town, November 12 – 14), where a Comedy Central content showcase, presented by Evert van der Veer, will reveal the ways in which Comedy Central keeps its audiences laughing. For booking and more info go here.
