Telefonica and EKT agree Czech set-top deal

Telefónica Czech Republic has chosen China-based Eagle Kingdom Technologies (EKT) to supply its new interactive set-top box solution.

Telefónica said the deal would allow Czech TV customers to experience its latest IPTV interactivity features, as wall as its HD graphical user interface capabilities.

EKT, based in Shenzen with an advanced software development group in Germany, says its STB solution is based on an Entropic ARM-based system. It will also use the Nangu.TV IPTV platform.

Telefónica Czech Republic video services manager Tomas Dratva said: “The combination of EKT with the nangu.TV IPTV platform has fulfilled our expectation and we are keen to start the new era of our O2TV in the Czech market.”

EKT solidTVTM group general manager Christof Winker said: “”The Telefónica project really brings together the power of our Entropic-based hardware with the robustness and flexibility of our solidTV middleware.

“We really look forward to bringing a fully managed box with the latest in HTML5-compliant browser capabilities, smooth streaming and PlayReady to Telefonica.”
