New TiVo offers streaming across devices

DVR maker TiVo has launched a new generation of set-top boxes capable of streaming programmes to TVs and Apple mobile devices.

The TiVo Roamio PVR – TiVo’s first major product release in three years – offers live, recorded, on-demand and OTT television in one unit.

The company has released a range of boxes with different tuning and recording capability – with four or six tuners and storage from 75 to 450 hours of HD content.

A Roamio standard box will cost US$200, Roamio Plus US$400 and Roamio Pro US$600, plus a US$15 monthly service fee.

The higher-end boxes will allow users to stream content to iPhone and iPad outside the home.

TiVo said: “Take every box or device out there – Roku, Apple TV, Slingbox, Google TV, your standard cable box – all rolled into one. This is quite simply the best TiVo we have ever made and is truly for people who love TV.”
