Deutsche Telekom Euro TV subs rise by 11.7%

Deutsche Telekom (DT) added 121,000 new TV subscribers across Europe between April and June, representing an 11.7% year-on-year increase, the German telco giant confirmed this week.

Europe-wide, the company reported a total of 3.086 million customers, up from 2.763 million compared to the same quarter last year – and a rise of 2.6% on the last quarter.

The increase confirms consumer interest in DT’s IPTV product Entertain, as well as its Entertain-by-Satellite hybrid.

DT confirmed that, in Germany, its biggest territory, the total number of TV homes stood at 2.078 million on 30 June, up nearly 14% on the previous year.

Research published by GfK this week projected that every third German household (30%) would have a smart TV by the second half of this year.

DT said its TV business saw year-on-year revenue growth of 18%. Revenue increased by 5.4% year-on-year, to €5.2 billion. Net profits were up 10%, to €530 million.
