Blinkx buys Grab Media for cash

Internet video search engine blinkx has acquired video content syndication and advertising platform Grab Media.

Blinkx, which connects digital consumers with advertisers, said it had bought the platform to boost its audience and expand its relationships with advertisers, publishers and content providers.

The acquisition is an as-yet-unspecified all-cash transaction with Grab Media parent Grab Network Holdings.

Blinkx CEO S. Brian Mukherjee added: “Blinkx plans to hire the existing Grab Media team – a talented, multi-faceted group with extensive experience and relationships in online video content syndication and advertising.

“This transaction, while modest in size, enables us to meet growing consumer demand for online video, and provides us with an established platform to distribute and monetise these interactions across desktops, tablets, smartphones and connected TVs.”

The deal should help blinkx to accelerate its syndication drive, including the introduction of blinkx VideoAdvantage, designed to expand distribution of premium video content across the web.

Blinkx, founded in 2004, floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2007 and has an index of over 35 million hours of video, along with 900 media partnerships.
