PCCW Global and SMG will collaborate on media transmission

Shanghai Media Group (SMG) has signed a memorandum of understanding with PCCW Global, a division of Hong Kong telco HKT, to “jointly explore media transmission and distribution opportunities” and bring media content into and out of mainland China.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two partners will interconnect their respective media transmission networks, with SMG and other local media producers expected to gain new business opportunities and international exposure as a result.

For its part, PCCW Global will aggregate media content to overseas markets via its global television channel transmission network (GTVN) platform, comprised of resilient and diversified fibre, IP and satellite networks which cover more than 1,800 cities and 120 countries worldwide.

Stephen Pang, PCCW Global’s Senior Vice President, Asia & CIS, said, “It is our great honour to collaborate with SMG, a prestigious broadcaster in China via this project. This collaboration offers the perfect opportunity for us to reach out to the Chinese market and to enhance our capabilities to better support international content producers and broadcasters.”
