Japanese telco NTT Plala has selected content security technology from US firm Verimatrix to protect its over-the-top (OTT) TV service ‘Hikari-TV’ for smartphones.

The Verimatrix VCAS for Internet TV solution has been integrated with a hosted/cloud headend solution from Japanese firm Alfredcore, a provider of cloud computing systems.

Hikari-TV is billed as Japan’s largest Internet TV service, encompassing 93 linear channels, more than 30,000 VOD assets and approximately 30,000 karaoke titles.
