Telefónica inks global OTT pact with Russia’s MegaFon

Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica has formed a global strategic partnership with Russian telco MegaFon to share technical expertise and costs in a number of areas including over-the-top (OTT) video delivery, cloud services and machine to machine (M2M) communications.

The alliance includes joint procuration of equipment, and will see Telefónica provide services to multinational corporate clients using MegaFon’s network, and similarly MegaFon business customers will have access to Telefónica services when abroad.

MegaFon CEO Ivan Tavrin said: “Joining Telefónica’s Partners Programme is in line with MegaFon’s long term strategy focused on efficient growth, mobile Internet service development and enhancement of the customer experience.
