Mediaroom upgrade for TDS Telecom

TDS Telecom, a large local exchange carrier based in the US state of Wisconsin, has upgraded its IPTV platform to Mediaroom 2.3 to make the viewing experience more intuitive by adding over a dozen new features and enhancements including better menus and the ability to share photos and music on TVs.

The new features for TDS TV include a customisable local weather application, enhanced menus with programming categories and shortcuts, multiple favourite lists for each set-top box, and the ability to share personal media such as photos and videos on TVs using a USB drive on the TV or personal computer.

All customers of TDS TV – available in parts of Tennessee, Georgia and Wisconsin – will receive the upgrade automatically and free of charge in the near future. The telco has so far invested US$ 25-30mn on its TV deployments in various parts of the country.

Microsoft recently sold its Mediaroom business to Swedish firm Ericsson for an undisclosed amount (rumoured to be over US$ 99mn), with the deal expected to close in the second half of this year – more details and comment here.
