Lithuania’s TEO unbundles GALA TV packages

Lithuanian TV viewers can now create their own channel packages for the IPTV service operated by incumbent telco TEO, which is charging subscribers LTL 6 (US$ 2) per month to build a personalised bundle of six channels out of a choice of 27, ranging from movies to sport and entertainment.

The IPTV service, called ‘Interactive GALA TV’ offers 50 channels in its basic package, and had accumulated 95,000 subscribers by the close of 2012.

Teo’s chief marketing officer Nerijus Ivanauskas commented: “Customers increasingly appreciate the possibility to make their own ‘menu’ of TV programmes individually, according to their needs. They give preference not to the number of channels, but to the content that suits their personal needs.”

UK consultancy 3Vision recently surveyed 70 European pay-TV operators, and found that only 14% of them allow their subscribers to create their own TV channel bundles, while incumbent telco IPTV operators are the most likely to use tiered and thematic bundles.
