BT adds 40k TV subs in Q1

One day after unwrapping its new sports channels, UK telco BT has released its results for the first quarter of this year, in which it added 40,000 TV customers to reach a total of 810,000.

The telco has two TV propositions – a managed IPTV service called ‘BT Vision’ which it launched in 2006, and the new connected TV platform ‘YouView’ which launched last year – but does not break down the numbers for each.

BT unveiled its new BT Sport channels yesterday (May 9th), generating great excitement by revealing that they will be free to all its residential broadband customers when they launch in August, offering live Premiership football, rugby, tennis and more.

The company also added 211,000 residential customers for its super-fast fibre broadband service ‘BT Infinity’ in the first three months of this year to reach a total of 1.3mn.

Total revenues across all operations and markets for the first quarter of this year reached GB£ 4.785bn (US$ 7.4bn), down 2% from one year earlier, while pre-tax profits fell 5% to reach GB£ 687mn.
