KPN grabs second spot in Dutch TV market

Dutch telco KPN is now the country’s second-largest TV provider after adding 116k IPTV subscribers in the first quarter of this year to reach a total of 1.1mn.

The telco also operates a terrestrial TV service called Digitenne, for which it lost 37k subscribers in the same period to reach a total of 717k subs.

As a result of these shifts in its customer base, KPN now counts a total of 1.8mn TV subs and controls around 24% of the Dutch TV market, overtaking cable rival UPC.

The telco still has a long way to go before it catches up with market leader Ziggo however, currently estimated by Informa Telecoms & Media (publisher of IP&TV News) to control 38% of the Dutch TV market.
