Jason Kilar, outgoing CEO of US online video service Hulu, has confirmed that Andy Forssell, SVP of Content, will be stepping up as acting CEO after Kilar departs later this month.
Writing on the Hulu blog, Kilar says: “Andy exemplifies the Hulu culture and has been central to Hulu’s journey, helping to grow this company from two content partners and no revenue to over 450 content partners and approximately US$ 700mn revenue in 2012.
“In his role, Andy has built strong relationships with many of our Board members. Andy has the Board’s strong support in leading the team during this important time.”
Kilar adds that Hulu owners Disney and News Corporation are currently finalising their forward-looking plans with Hulu, and that a permanent decision will be made regarding the CEO position once these plans are finalised.
Kilar’s resignation last January (along with CTO Richard Tom) surprised many in the telecoms and media industry, especially as the service is growing at such a rapid clip with the total number of paying users more than doubling last year to reach over 3mn.
