FilmFlex picks Irdeto to protect on-demand movies

UK video-on-demand service FilmFlex has chosen content security technology from Dutch firm Irdeto to secure its premium entertainment assets on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

FilmFlex, which provides white-label VOD services to UK operators including cableco Virgin Media and mobile operator EE, has chosen Irdeto’s ActiveCloak media protection solutions to provide a secure implementation of Microsoft PlayReady Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.

“Content security is paramount as we expand our proposition in to more devices for our white-label clients,” said Greig Hilton, COO at FilmFlex. “This was an ideal relationship when you consider what each party brings to the table.

“Irdeto can help us to protect our business model by securely delivering this content on the latest consumer devices. With Irdeto as our partner, we can remain focused on expanding FilmFlex’s leading position into new clients, platforms, devices and markets.”

A joint venture between Sony Pictures Television and Disney EMEA, FilmFlex provides a complete range of VOD services to its operator customers across service development and platform operation, including all content acquisition, management, billing and customer service.
