Swisscom climbs closer to 1mn TV subs

Swiss telco Swisscom added 183,000 customers for its IPTV service ‘Swisscom TV’ over the course of 2012 to reach a total of 791,000, with 63,000 users added in the fourth quarter alone.

Around 200,000 Swisscom TV customers are already testing the replay function, which allows programmes from around 70 channels to be watched up to 30 hours after they have been broadcast. Around 80% of active replay customers already use catch-up TV.

The telco also saw slight gains for its fixed broadband business, adding 63,000 customers over the course of 2012 to reach 1.73mn, with 19,000 added in the fourth quarter alone. Fixed-network data traffic grew by 37%.

Total revenues across all operations and markets for 2012 fell 0.7% to reach CHF 11.384bn (US$ 12.5bn), while net income rose 154% to reach CHF 1.068bn, thanks mainly to last year’s impairment charge at Italian subsidiary Fastweb.
