Jason Kilar, outgoing CEO of Hulu

Jason Kilar, CEO of hugely successful US online video service Hulu, has announced his intention to leave the company in the first quarter of this year, along with CTO Richard Tom.

In an email to all Hulu staff, Kilar pays credit to the company Hulu has become, encompassing as it does a worldwide team of over 600 people, and the service it offers, which is now growing at a rapid clip with over 200,000 new subscribers added in the past week alone.

However, the exec fails to mention his reasons for leaving, and states that he is currently working with the Board to ensure there is “ample runway” to manage this transition.

With record revenues of approximately US$ 695mn for 2012, up 65% from one year earlier, and more than 3mn paying Hulu Plus customers (more than double the end-2011 figure), it is certainly surprising that Kilar and Tom have decided to leave at such a positive moment in the company’s journey.
