YouView launches Remote Record app

The partners behind UK connected TV platform YouView have developed a free app for iOS devices that provides listings for over 70 TV and radio channels over the coming week, as well as the ability to remotely schedule the recording of programmes on their YouView set-top box.

The new app is compatible with all YouView set-top boxes (available from retailers and Internet service providers BT, TalkTalk and JT Group), and is described as being the first stage in YouView’s companion device strategy, with plans underway to extend the app’s functionality further in future – most likely through the addition of social TV features, which continue to grow in popularity with UK television viewers.

YouView boxes combine linear television channels via the ‘Freeview’ DTT platform with over-the-top content from a range of sources, including the catch-up players from all the main UK broadcasters, and Sky’s OTT service ‘Now TV’.

The partners behind YouView (broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, ISPs BT and TalkTalk, and broadcast services firm Arqiva) started delivering software updates for the platform recently, adding surround-sound capability, faster start-up times, grouping of recordings and more.
