PCCW taps Verimatrix for OTT security

Hong Kong telco PCCW has selected content security solutions from US firm Verimatrix to protect its over-the-top (OTT) video-on-demand service ‘Video Express’, allowing it to expand the number of devices supported to include both Apple and Android devices on top of PCs and Macs.

The telco has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for Internet TV to protect both its existing ‘Video Express First’ offering, a pay-per-view movie on-demand service that offers subscribers access to the latest blockbuster movies in 3D, HD and SD, and its new service ‘Video Express Unlimited’, a subscription-based movie and drama on-demand service.

PCCW recently bagged the exclusive rights to live coverage of the English Premier League in Hong Kong once again, securing them for three more seasons, multi-screen rights included, involving the live broadcasts of a total of 380 matches, starting with the 2013/14 season.

The telco had clocked up 1.165mn customers for its managed IPTV service ‘now TV’ service by the end of the first half of this year, having added 77,000 customers in the six-month period.
