Google TV gets an update

Search giant Google will start updating its Google TV platform over the coming weeks, adding voice search, a tailored TV guide/app called ‘PrimeTime’, and an improved YouTube app with Android device pairing.

The addition of voice search will enables users to search for TV shows and movies, YouTube videos, open applications, go to websites, do a Google search, and more – the technology is described as being smart enough to ask ‘”how to tie a bow tie” and find the relevant video on YouTube.

The PrimeTime app lets users search for something new without leaving what they are currently watching, and quickly flip through the best stuff on live TV, access favourite channels, see recently-watched TV shows, and find other suggestions based on what a user enjoys watching.

The update will start arriving on LG-manufactured devices over the coming weeks, then to other second generation hardware with Google TV in the coming months. First generation devices will see the updates to PrimeTime and YouTube, but no voice search.
