Sweden’s Viaplay picks Envivio to power OTT video service

Swedish over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service Viaplay has chosen software-based encoding solutions from US firm Envivio to enhance its service and extend streaming of live channels to IP set-top-boxes.

Viaplay, part of Modern Times Group and recognised as one of the leading online video services in the Nordics market, is clearly looking to raise its game before the imminent arrival of some major players in its backyard, including US heavyweights Netflix and HBO.

Viaplay is using Envivio Muse Live software-based encoders on the 4Caster C4 Gen III platform, and the deployment apparently represents one of the first large scale pay-TV projects in Europe to make use of linear over-the-top (OTT) delivery to STBs.

Envivio partnered with Nordic market specialist Arco Telesystem for sales and installation support services for the Viaplay deployment.
