Latvia’s Lattelecom picks Thomson encoders to power IPTV and TV Everywhere

Latvian telco Lattelecom has deployed a multi-screen video platform from Thomson Video Networks to provide encoding for its new range of Web and mobile TV services, as well as SD, HD, and 3D content on its managed IPTV service.

Lattelecom picked Thomson’s ViBE VS7000 multi-screen video platform for the project, with local distributor Hannu Pro providing installation and systems integration services.

Installed at Lattelecom’s data center in Riga, the Thomson Video Networks ViBE VS7000 supports up to 30 new multi-platform video services representing a range of encoding profiles including SD, HD, 3D IPTV, Web, and mobile TV.

Based on the success of the initial services, Lattelecom plans to expand the offering to include up to 100 Web and mobile TV channels in the near future.

The telco launched its IPTV service in April 2007 and had acquired over 230,000 subscribers by the end of 2011.
