Watch the new YouView ad here

The first TV adverts for new connected TV platform YouView (backed by the UK’s major broadcasters and ISPs) aired last night during a commercial break for talent show ‘X Factor’.

As previously suggested, the adverts pull together a collection of the most popular TV characters on British screens and superimpose them on buildings lining a busy urban street, in a bid to emphasise the universal appeal of the new boxes.

The YouView project was formally set up as a joint venture in late 2010 by broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, telcos BT and TalkTalk, and broadcasting services provider Arqiva.

YouView boxes combine linear television channels via the ‘Freeview’ DTT platform with over-the-top content from a range of sources, including the catch-up players from all the main UK broadcasters, and Sky’s OTT service ‘Now TV’.

The new boxes are now available from a range of outlets, including retailers such as John Lewis, and ISPs BT and TalkTalk have also now launched their own customer packages.
