We have secured the first images of YouView’s opening TV advertising campaign, due to launch this weekend, and can reveal that the ads will feature Dame Maggie Smith in her guise as the Dowager Countess from ‘Downton Abbey’, and Frank Gallagher from ‘Shameless’.
The adverts look set to underline the universal appeal of YouView devices by featuring a busy London street at night with popular TV characters superimposed on the buildings in the background.
The ads will also see the YouView logo superimposed on a large red brick multi-tenant residential building, again underlining the intended appeal of the devices to the largest possible section of the public.
The partners behind the YouView project (the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva) revealed earlier today that this ad campaign will launch this coming weekend during a break in ITV’s popular talent show ‘X Factor’.
YouView boxes combine linear television channels via the ‘Freeview’ DTT platform with on-demand content delivered via IP, including the catch-up players from all the main UK broadcasters, and Sky’s OTT service ‘Now TV’. Also included is an innovative EPG that lets viewers access catch-up TV direct from the programme guide, and time-shifting.
