Espial TV Browser to power Toshiba’s Connected TVs

Japanese electronics giant Toshiba has chosen software from Canadian firm Espial to power its next-gen connected TVs in North America.

The Espial TV Browser software development kit (SDK) is being used as the basis for a customised graphical user interface which includes advanced features such as multiple browser windows and visual thumbnails for recent and favourite websites.

Using Espial TV Browser’s screen navigation and comprehensive open Web browsing capabilities (including support for HTML5 content), users can access a variety of customised applications including product menus, social media, interactive advertising, email, chat, and video games.

In addition, the intuitive user interface can be tailored according to the needs of a specific geographical market, and is being integrated with Toshiba tablet applications to extend consumers’ media experience beyond the traditional TV screen.
