Deutsche Telekom deploys TV apps solution from Accedo

Germany’s Deutsche Telekom has chosen the Accedo Application Sphere to power the TV apps it launched recently on its Microsoft Mediaroom-powered IPTV service ‘Entertain’.

The Application Sphere from Stockholm-headquartered apps specialist Accedo provides a powerful, cloud based, scalable and open application management platform, as well as attractive administrative tools to manage applications for multiple platforms and devices.

Deutsche Telekom recently announced 20 new TV apps for its IPTV service, provided by a variety of partners including tabloid newspaper Bild, news service Tagesschau and sports TV channel Sport 1.

Also included is a Media Centre app which offers 25 GB of free cloud storage and email capabilities, which will become available at some point later this year.

Deutsche Telekom had reached 1.83mn subscribers for its domestic pay-TV services (delivered via IPTV and DTH) by the end of June, up 40.7% from one year earlier.

The telco added 100,000 German TV customers in the second quarter of this year alone, helping to drive a 30% increase in domestic television revenues in the first half of this year on an annual basis.
