Netflix builds kids’ zone

US online video service Netflix has developed a new zone specifically for children, called ‘Just for Kids’ and available on a range of devices.

Once opened, a young user can click and instantly watch their favourite characters, access personalised recommendations based on previous viewing habits, and see shows and movies organised by easy-to-understand genres such as superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs and girl power.

The Just for Kids zone is available on the Xbox 360 games console, PCs and Macs, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Apple TV and certain Smart TVs, Blu-ray players and streaming media players. Other devices including tablets are scheduled to follow this year.

After a difficult past year, Netflix returned to profit for the second quarter of this year, but CEO Reed Hastings warns that the next three months will be tough due to the Olympics – although many analysts believe this may be a disingenuous claim.
