Dixons revs Rovi tech for KnowHow Movies

UK electronics retailer Dixons has opted for a suite of over-the-top (OTT) video delivery solutions from US firm Rovi to power its new online video service ‘KnowHow Movies’.

The service, launched last March into a crowded marketplace that includes the likes of Netflix and Sky, offers on-demand access to a range of movies and TV series on PCs, Macs, LG Smart TVs, iOS and Android devices.

Rovi has been called upon to provide its Rovi Entertainment Store solution, which includes white-label storefronts and playback client SDKs, as well as its adaptive video streaming format DivX Plus Streaming, content licensing, management, and marketing services.

With retail operations spanning over 1,300 stores in 28 countries, Dixons Retail has considerable reach and could be using the UK launch of KnowHow Movies to prepare for the eventual rollout of a pan-European video service.
