AT&T beefs up 2nd screen apps

US telco AT&T has added a slew of new features and content to the second-screen apps available for its IPTV service ‘U-verse TV’.

The free iOS apps have gained an expanded lineup of on-demand premium and TV content at no extra charge, including HBO, Cinemax, STARZ, ENCORE, MOVIEPLEX and Music Choice videos.

It is is the iPad app however which has gained the most new features: in addition to the above, it can also now link to a U-verse receiver to access up-to-the-minute sports companion content and scores from various leagues, as well as share information about what a viewer is watching on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

The dedicated apps for iPhone and iPod Touch can also now control the U-verse TV service with a fully-featured, intuitive U-verse remote control with channel, guide, DVR, interactive app and on-demand controls (already available for the iPad).

AT&T also continues to add more content on U-verse.com, with live feeds from FOX News Channel and FOX Business Network. The networks are now available for U-verse TV customers, who already receive the service at home, when they log-in to the site.

The company added 200,000 subscribers for U-verse TV in the first quarter of this year to reach 4mn in service. The company collected two awards in the annual IP&TV Awards which were announced last March in London: ‘Best TV App’ and ‘Best TV Consumer Device’ – full details here.
