Telefónica extends Spanish IPTV service to iOS devices

Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica has enabled subscribers to its IPTV service ‘Movistar Imagenio’ to access the service on iOS-based mobile devices from Apple.

Subscribers with BlackBerry and Android-based devices can already access the service on their mobiles, and this step to make it available on iPhones and iPads means that Movistar Imagenio is now available on 95% of smartphones served by the operator’s mobile network.

The company estimates that around 100,000 customers already access the service on their mobile device, with over 50 channels available via a dedicated site (wap.movistgar.com).

Telefónica recently revealed that it enjoyed pay-TV subscriber growth in all markets in which it operates pay-TV services during the first quarter of this year, but with only 3% growth in its native Spain, appears to have stalled domestically – more details here.
