SeaChange buys iTV software specialist Flashlight

US firm SeaChange International, a specialist in TV software and technology, has purchased all the assets and intellectual property (including source code) of Flashlight Engineering and Consulting, a specialist in designing and writing software for digital TVs and set-top boxes based in Portland, Oregon.

As part of the agreement, SeaChange will create a business unit in Portland for its 20 employees, while Flashlight’s current President and CEO Eric Miller will become VP-Engineering at SeaChange, reporting to Shiva Patibanda, General Manager of SeaChange’s In-Home business unit.

“Flashlight has worked across the spectrum of iTV software, from drivers to applications and from web services to set-top boxes and mobile devices,” said Mr. Patibanda. ”Every major cable operator in the US is using software developed by Flashlight engineers, and their expertise ties in nicely with our software development and deployments with all major cable operators in the Americas and Europe.”

SeaChange has been busy divesting its non-core businesses recently, selling both its broadcast servers and storage and media service businesses last month (more details here and here).

The company recently reported its financial results for the three-month period to April 2012, relating that its revenues remained stable while losses continued – more details here.
