Irdeto wins key role in Malaysian OTT video service

Astro Malaysia Holdings has chosen software solutions from Irdeto to power and protect its new over-the-top (OTT) video service ‘Astro On-the-Go’, launched earlier this month.

The operator has chosen Irdeto’s ActiveCloak for Media security solutions to protect content on its new service, which offers much of the premium live and on-demand content available on its existing pay-TV service and delivers it to connected devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Irdeto is a subsidiary of South African media group Naspers and is co-headquartered in Amsterdam and Beijing.

Astro Malaysia has also selected Irdeto’s Broadband multi-screen TV solutions to power Astro On-the-Go, enabling it to easily configure and automate content-viewing rules, package and deliver content in more personalised ways, offer intuitive search and recommendation tools, provide social and interactive viewing capabilities, and determine the best recipe for monetising content across multiple distribution methods.

Astro On-the-Go is initially being made available on iPads, iPhones, PCs and Macs, and will become available on Android devices this September during the project’s second phase.

Full details of the service can be found here.
