US firm Brightcove has unveiled an innovative new solution that enables media publishers to develop rich content apps for the iPhone and iPad that can simultaneously control full-screen video streaming on the living television via the Apple TV set-top box whilst also displaying synchronised content on the iOS device.

The App Cloud Dual-Screen Solution for Apple TV leverage’s Apple’s AirPlay technology, which allows users to wirelessly stream video from iOS devices to a television via the Apple TV device.

Enhanced viewing experiences enabled by the new solution include the ability to stream programmes to an HDTV while enjoying relevant content on the iOS app, such as actor biographies, past-season recaps, trivia, photos and more, according to Brightcove.

The Dual-Screen App Solution will be included in Brightcove’s new App Cloud Core software development kit (SDK) and is being made available to the open source community.

In an interview earlier today with Brightcove’s CMO Jeff Whatcott, he told us that Apple currently has the most complete dual-screen vision for TV apps – full interview here.
