Hot new social TV app Zeebox has formed a partnership with fellow UK firm ShowCaster to deliver innovative live video shows within the Zeebox app.
The partnership will enable TV viewers to watch and interact with the cast or other presenters during and following their favourite shows, on their preferred second-screen device. The Zeebox app is available on iOS and Android devices, and on PCs and Macs.
“Zeebox is transforming the TV experience so we’re delighted to be an official partner with tight platform integration,” comments Will Neale, CEO of ShowCaster. “Our partnership will provide new and creative ways for broadcasters and production companies to engage their audiences and generate revenue.”
ShowCaster’s full service interactive Web TV platform is already being used by major broadcasters such as Channel 4 and Sky on hit shows such as ’Made In Chelsea’ and ’Skins’.
As well as enabling broadcasters to rapidly embed live HD video into their websites, ShowCaster capitalises on the interactivity of the Web by encouraging audience participation via Twitter, Facebook and polls – the results of which are immediately available to the presenter.
Having successfully integrated with Zeebox’s Showtime platform for Sky 1 HD’s flagship entertainment show ’Got to Dance’, the partnership now offers other broadcasters and production companies the opportunity to drive online engagement via live video utilising Zeebox’s Play Along Zone as well as a curated social stream in its Programme Zone and live Zeetags during the show.
The Zeebox app provides users with a more social, interactive experience when watching live TV by combining a powerful “Zeetags” engine which generates clickable tags based on names, subjects and products mentioned during a TV show, live chat with friends, an overview of social media activity around the programme, and access to additional information.
Zeebox has indicated that it is planning to launch in the US later this year, and has appointed ex-Time Warner Cable exec Jason Forbes as Executive Vice President of its US operations.
Ernesto Schmitt, co-founder and CEO of Zeebox, recently revealed that the company had hit 15,000 new app downloads per hour, following its first TV advertising campaign, which ran on the networks of minority shareholder BSkyB.
