Next stop Sweden for Netflix, claims report

Sweden will become the next European country to be targeted by US online video service Netflix, according to online news source TBI, citing local sources.

“As you know, Netflix arrived in Europe earlier this year, launching in the UK and Ireland in January,” commented Joris Evers, director of corporate communications at Netflix. “We have said publicly that we intend to open in another international market in the fourth quarter of this year.”

Netflix launched in the UK and Ireland at the beginning of this year, and is believed to be in talks with local producers, international distributors and broadcasters in Sweden as it prepares to launch in the country.

A new study by US research firm Strategy Analytics (here) found this week that services such as Netflix are proving key to the success of connected TV devices in the US.
