Bouygues Telecom to launch new BBox Sensation in June

French operator Bouygues Telecom will be launching its new high-end broadband gateway/set-top box on June 18th of this year, according to local reports.

The new ‘BBox Sensation’ will be manufactured by Samsung, powered by the Intel Atom CE 4200 Groveland chip and combine 1 GB of RAM and a 320 GB hard drive, reports here.

It is expected to come in two versions, a DSL version and a fibre version, with both models featuring Celeno’s OptimizAir Wi-Fi technology, and a new 3D user interface.

Also included will be a cloud gaming service from Playcast, along with a free dedicated controller, and a remote control that works via radio frequencies.

It will not however include a Web browser, as studies conducted by Bouygues Telecom indicated that users are more likely to surf the Internet while watching TV via companion devices such as smartphones or tablets.

The unit will cost €37.90 per month for a triple-play package, with existing subscribers offered to migrate onto the new device for a one-off fee of €49.
