Amazon Instant lands on Xbox 360

Amazon Instant has become the latest online video service to join the Xbox 360 games console in the US, offering access to thousands of movies and TV episodes for instant streaming on a transactional basis.

The Amazon Instant app is available to Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers at no additional cost, and offers recent hit movies like Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, We Bought a Zoo, and The Grey, and popular TV shows Mad Men, Fringe, Vampire Diaries and Once Upon A Time.

Viewers can use gesture and voice control via the Kinect peripheral to browse and play videos on the Xbox 360, access their Watchlist for Amazon Instant Video to create a list of things they want to watch, and use Amazon’s Whispersync technology to seamlessly switch viewing from one device to another.

The app also provides access to Amazon’s US$ 79 per month Prime Instant video subscription service, offering more than 17,000 movies and TV shows, includes hit TV shows like Glee, Downton Abbey and Sons of Anarchy, and classic movies such as Office Space, The Graduate and Brokeback Mountain.

New details emerged earlier this week on Microsoft’s plans for integrating its recent Skype acquisition with the much-rumoured Xbox 720 platform, with a new job posting being issued for Lead Program Manager on Skype for Xbox – more details here.
