Telekom Slovenije targets Apple devices with new OTT service

Telekom Slovenije has launched a new app for Apple’s iOS devices which enables them to receive its new over-the-top (OTT) television service ‘SiOL TViN’.

SiOL TViN was launched a little over a month ago, and enables users to watch TV programmes on their PC/Mac, tablet or smartphone (Android and now iOS). The service has already reached 13,500 registered users, who have cumulatively watched over 4,700 days of television, according to Telekom Slovenije.

The Slovenian telco already operates a successful managed IPTV service called ‘SiOL TV’, which it launched back in 2003 (before most Western European services had been launched), and easily dominates the local IPTV market with 117,000 subscribers by the end of June 2011.

Recent research from Informa Telecoms & Media (publisher of IPTV News) found that there were approximately 197,500 subscribers for IPTV services in Slovenia by the end of the first half of last year, spread across Telekom Slovenije and its rivals T-2, Tus Telekom and Amis.
